Andrew Payne

Andrew has over 25 years’ experience in aviation as a professional pilot in both the military and in the civilian airline sector, bringing with him extensive operational expertise and a sound practical understanding of how aviation safety works and how it can be improved within all levels of an organization.

During Andrew’s time as a professional pilot, he has flown and operated Lockheed, Boeing and Airbus aircraft on operations all across the globe. He has enjoyed a varied career, having flown both Rotary and Fixed Wing aircraft in the Royal Air Force and the Boeing 777 with British Airways. He has worked extensively as a Military Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI), Flying Supervisor and Flying Authorizer; all roles where a thorough understanding of flight safety, human factors, risk analysis and risk management are key. In addition, during his time in the Royal Air Force, he was responsible for developing and delivering a catalogue of safety and risk management procedures to support both pilot training and operational output.

Andrew primarily delivers Safety Management, Error Management, Human Factors and Bow Tie Methodology courses. In addition, he has participated in the consulting and training of Performance Influencing Factors delivered to the UK Display Pilot community on behalf of the CAA. His client experiences include the UK MOD, the CAA, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, the British Army and numerous civilian aerospace companies. His experiences include civil and military consulting, training, facilitation, and advisory activities and he currently participates in the MOD STEP programme within Baines Simmons on behalf of the MAA.
