Mark began his aviation career in 1980 as a cadet with Bristow Helicopters. Over 19 years, he gained extensive operational experience across Asia, Africa, and Europe, flying in offshore, onshore, public transport, HELSO, and SAR missions. During this time, he became a UK CAA examiner on the Bell 212 and a certified CRM facilitator.
Mark transitioned to fixed-wing aviation with British Midland, flying the Airbus A320 series, which later opened the door to a long and impactful tenure with Emirates Airline. At Emirates, he operated the A330, A340, and A380 on their global routes, serving as both a Type Rating Instructor and CRM facilitator.
In pursuit of academic advancement, Mark earned a Master of Science in Air Safety Management from City, University of London. He later took on ground-based roles within Emirates, first as a Human Factors Specialist and then as Flight Safety Manager. In these roles, he played a key part in developing innovative eye-tracking technology for simulator training.
Now based in Scotland, Mark continues to contribute to the field through published articles in industry journals and periodicals. He is also a named inventor on two US and EU patents relating to the use of mid-fidelity simulation in airline pilot training.
