Ian Holder, Managing Director of Baines Simmons, will be presenting an informative keynote on Wednesday, 6 October from 12:30pm to 13.00pm on the importance of Line Operations Safety Audits (LOSA) for VTOL and aviation businesses and why the rich data and real-time insights collected are such a powerful asset as part of an organisation’s Safety Management System (SMS). Ian Holder will also provide best practice advice on how to successfully design, implement and overcome challenges when undertaking a LOSA.
A Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA) is an effective way to underpin a Safety Management System performance, delivering a bespoke, structured programme of observation of front-line activities built around the Threat and Error Management (TEM) concept. LOSA provides a unique insight into ‘work-as done’ during real operations, and provides valuable insights into what is actually working well, or not so well, on the line. Based on the data, and following risk assessment, risk mitigation actions can be prioritised and implemented. This rich data can also support the implementation and delivery of an Evidence Based Training regime, delivering both safety and efficiency benefits
Ian Holder is a safety management specialist, with over 30 years in the industry. He began in aviation serving as both a military and civil airline pilot, before joining Europe’s largest regional airline in 2009, where he held a number of senior positions, including Operations Safety Manager. He has a particular interest in the power of organisational safety cultures to drive enhanced business performance, focussing on effective risk management, and has worked with numerous global brands, including national flag-carrying airlines.
Ian joined Baines Simmons as a Principal Consultant in 2015 where his experience as a civil airline pilot and commercial aviation senior manager, combined with a prestigious military career, made him highly qualified to lead flight operations and safety management expertise before becoming Managing Director in April 2018.
