Introduction to EMARs

TR112 | 1 day

In 2008 the European Defense Agency (EDA) through their Military Airworthiness Authorities Forum (MAWA) was tasked by EU Defence Ministers to harmonise European military airworthiness regulations. The output of the tasking generated a set of requirements known as European Military Airworthiness Requirements (EMARs) along with supporting means of compliance and guidance material. Since the initial development, the MAWA has also produce numerous supporting documents.

Since their inception a significant number of EU/Non-EU Member States and other states have implemented EMARs into their national military airworthiness systems.

Frequently asked questions

Are EMARs regulations?

No, they have EASA regulations as a baseline but they have been adjusted to meet the needs of military airworthiness, which in some cases are distinctively different to those used for commercial aviation.

Are EMARs just for organisations who need an approval to do things?

No, they also provide requirements for a Military Airworthiness Authority to comply with, so ultimately EMARs are requirements for regulators and the regulated.

Do EMARs contain the safety management requirements like EASA?

Yes they do in some cases and eventually they will all be defined.

Have EMARs been amended to include the equivalent of Part CAMO?

Yes, we have EMAR CAMO and EMAR M.
